郭凱的繪畫作品給人的第一印象，就是像一首詩，一闋歌，或一篇美的散文。「畫中有詩」向來是中國品畫的要項之一，郭凱的繪畫尤其含有濃得化不開的詩意。
郭凱經常在古宅、祠堂間留連忘返。他覺得古宅裡的先人其實離他不遠，他甚至感覺到可以與那些先人溝通，古宅宗祠裡的傳家訓詞、箴言都還歷歷可見，那些古宅雖然都已歷經三、五百年的歲月，但較諸千百年的歷史長河，其實都還算年輕。
