出生於台中市，畢業於國立新竹師範學院美勞教育系 (現: 國立清華大學)，曾經榮獲全省美展首獎、公教美展首獎、55屆全國油畫展首獎。曾多次受邀國內外美術交流展。她以抽象表現風格來創作，靈感來自生活五味雜陳的敘事，對生命內在宇宙的交疊，集結內心世界情緒的動靜之間，反覆的探索與突圍、沉澱與昇華。2020年於國父紀念館展出個展。阿波羅畫廊於1997年首次舉辦黃秋月個展，至今共四次。這次Art Taipei主要展出她2022/23年的畫作。
